Margery Sharp (Janu – Ma), born Clara Margery Melita Sharp in Salisbury, England, was a prolific British author. Though she wrote numerous books (many in the comic novel genre), her most enduring work is The Rescuers series for children, two of which were adapted into animated Disney films. The rights for the novel Britannia Mews were bought in by 20th Century Fox, and it was released as The Forbidden Street in The film The Notorious Landlady was based on her short story "The Notorious Tenant". In she published The Rescuers, and though written for an adult audience it became hugely popular with children.
