In December of , I wrote a variety of blogs about E.T.A. Hoffmann's The Nutcracker and the Mouse King and a number of its adaptations. Since that time, there have been two highly noteworthy derivative works released and I came across other adaptations, so I've decided to revisit the story this December. Most famous and proliferate of all Hoffmann's tales, "Nutcracker and the Mouse-King" was not very well received by its contemporaries. Hoffmann himself considered it a flop, and tweaked the plot considerably into "The Stranger Child" - another Christmas tale about two siblings who befriend an exiled supernatural being who is pursued by a villainous animal hybrid (in this case a fly.
